The city of Palakkad lies at the foot of the Western Ghats, on the border between Kerala and Tamilnadu. It is not only the granary of Kerala, but also a region that boasts a quality of life and unique traditions of its kind.

The English name is Palghat. The name of Palakkad does not only refer to the city, but also to the district (a kind of department in Kerala state)

The city is located not far from Palghat Gap, which is a gateway through the Ghats and connects the Tamil country to the east and the plains of Kerala.

 

The inhabitants of Palakkad district speak Malalyalam, although Tamil is also widely spoken around the border.
